Skansen Moose

Greetings! Welcome to the website in which I will dutifully attempt to keep you up to date on all the happenings of my life while studying in Sweden and beyond. I hope you check back often and if you have any suggestions or comments please send them my way!

As per the title of this post, I have now lived in Sweden for over one month. Its hard to believe, I know I know, but its true. There are certain things that I miss about Bellevue but at the same time there are certain things in Sweden that I have grown used to which I wouldn’t give up for the world either. For example…coffee! Maybe you are like me and you can’t get enough of the hot, dark, enlivening beverage. Or maybe you hate coffee….but you wouldn’t if you lived in Sweden! No joke, coffee in Sweden, for whatever reason makes coffee from the US taste like dishwater. I know that sounds harsh but the coffee here is really that good. And what is even more great is its everywhere. You go into a little cafe for lunch and no matter what you buy coffee is almost always included. Its just an assumed part of life here. Heck, even McDonalds and (the Swedish fastfood equivalent) Max always includes coffee with every meal. Makes sense to me!

Speaking of coffee, somehow Starbucks has not yet invaded the lands of Scandinavia, yet. However, the infection of large chain coffee stores has begun…with a single, solitary, lonely little Tully’s Coffee in the heart of Stockholm. I took a picture of it during my last visit because it seemed so out of place and curious…even though at home there exists its seems either a ‘bucks or a Tully’s every 100 meters or so in every direction.

I visited Stockholm last, what was it, um Saturday I think with Karl Peterson (my bud from UW) and had a great time with him, Ryan and Meg around the city. Ill have more on that later…but I leave you with a picture of a moose we saw at Skansen…and then another picture of me riding a toy moose – looks fun eh?!

Till next time – Ha det så bra,

Mike
